Jarkko Ruutu bites Andrew Peters

As if the NHL needed more bullshit, with Sydney Crosby instigating fights now to one player biting another. Ottawa Senators' gutless agitator Jarkko Ruutu bit Sabres' enforcer Andrew Peters last night. Funny how just Peters got a penalty for it too. Watch the video below.

"It's a pretty stupid thing to do, regardless of who you are, it's just not part of the game of hockey," said Peters, whose thumb was cut.

"I've never had anyone bite me before, I didn't know that happened. The refs didn't see it. That's unfortunate. I saw a replay of it and it's pretty evident that he did bite me and I have a lot of confidence that the league will take the proper procedures and go about it the right way. I'm not going to say anything that's going to get me in any trouble. Like I said, I'm going to let the league deal with it."

Comments from Ruutu:

For his part, Ruutu denied biting Peters.

"He had his finger in my mouth, but I didn't bite him," Ruutu said.

Ruutu is the reason there should be no instigator rule. If there wasn't we wouldn't be doing this shit, because then he would get his ass handed to him every night. He's just a sad pathetic excuse of a hockey player.

Jarkko Ruutu knees Ilya Kovalchuk, then fights Steve McCarthy

On January 30th, in the Penguins-Thrashers game, Thrashers' All-Star Ilya Kovalchuk was kneed by Penguins' agitator Jarkko Ruutu and then Thrashers' defenseman Steve McCarthy went after him and tried to pound the ducking away Ruutu. Hopefully Kovalchuk isn't out for a long time.

Quotes:

McCarthy said: "First of all, Ruutu's running at your best player, whether it was a clean hit or not, and it wasn't," McCarthy said. "It hits knee on knee, hurts one of our best players, and that can't happen."

And did you think it was a cheap shot? Yeah, I did," McCarthy said.

Ruutu disagreed. "I barely hit him. I didn't change direction. I just went for a hit," Ruutu told reporters. "I got five minutes for fighting, and I didn't even throw a punch."

Darcy Tucker vs Jarkko Ruutu, battle of the agitators

Thursday night we got to see a slugfest between two of the best agitators in the game today, Darcy Tucker and Jarkko Ruutu. They went at it and had a great fight with both guys throwing and landing some bombs to each other's face. It looked like Ruutu landed more and by the end of the fight Tucker had blood on his left eyebrow trickling down his face. That was an awesome fight, watch it below, and download it here.

Don Cherry talks about Simon-Ruutu incident

I found this clip of Hockey Night in Canada with Don Cherry talking about the Chris Simon stepping on Jarkko Ruutu incident (see video below). And I have to kind of agree with him. These guys (players like Ruutu who do cheap/dirty/unsportsmanlike things) don't have any fear of being taken to task for what they do because of the instigator rule. If the instigator rule wasn't there I think you wouldn't see guys like Ruutu doing much of their stuff that they usually do, because then enforcers like Chris Simon could go after them and pound in their face, which Simon should have done anyways rather than trying to step/kick Ruutu.

Chris Simon tries to cut Jarkko Ruutu

Wow Chris Simon has lost it again. He didn't use his stick this time, rather he used his skate. I only thought I would hear about a hockey player trying to hurt someone with their skate would be on that Adam Sandler movie Happy Gilmore, but on Saturday New York Islanders' Chris Simon kicked/stepped on the side of Jarkko Ruutu's skate, but it looked like he wanted to step on Ruutu's leg but missed. I know Ruutu is a pain in the ass, but you don't use your skate. Just drop your gloves and pound him into the ice or lay him out with a big check, but don't use your skate. I added the video below for you to watch to see for yourself. What do you think Simon was trying to do? And how many games do you think he'll get suspended for?

Boogaard vs Godard, the rematch

The All-Star break ended and last night we had some good hockey action. The Flames recalled tough guy Eric Godard so you knew that the game against the Minnesota Wild was going to have the rematch, Derek Boogaard vs Eric Godard. Round 2 did take place and it was a good fight with both guys getting some shots in on each other. They both skated away from the fight with marks on their faces as Boogaard had a cut under his right eye and Godard had a bloody lip. I would give that fight a draw. There were three other fights with Sabres' Andrew Peters vs Blue Jackets' Jody Shelley, which I would give a draw because neither fighter landed much at all. The Capitals' Chris Clark and Hurricanes' Scott Walker had a spirited bout with the win going to Scott Walker. The other fight was between Stars' Stephane Robidas and Penguins' Jarkko Ruutu with Ruutu getting the win over Robidas.

A good night last night, I'm hoping for some more hockey fights today. Get ready, the first game today is about to start at 1pm with the New York Rangers at the Philadelphia Flyers.
